because its either this picture of a demon hunter or a band that I like.

oo! that picture is creeepy!!
Hmm...well you could always have something relating to your pirate character or piraty interests (sf, bilge, carp, whatever). I myself am looking for something along those lines for my new avatar!

There are several players that will make you an avatar for a fee payable in PoE.
You can browse Mariner's Muse on the main forums to find several.
I recommend the following people:
Avera (our own dear Avera!). Avera doesn't seem to have one in Mariner's Muse, but she did my avatar here! /e points left.
Princessj (our wonderful former crewmate!)
