How do I be a good crewmate?

Welcome to the Lost Lot, we hope you enjoy being part of our little family.

Here are some basic guidelines from Kaptain Korr on how to be a good crewmate: -

Here are some dos and don’ts for Lost Lotters looking to get ahead:

Do:
*Show us you’re good at puzzles in the duty report.
*Ask permission to board ships, unless an Officer says otherwise on Crew Chat.
*Hop on and help pillage often.
*Greet people and be friendly.
*Encourage and congratulate crew members.
*Be polite.
*Follow officers’ orders quickly.
*Ask questions if you are having problems or difficulties with a puzzle, or anything in the game.
*Ask what you can do to improve. And ask what you need to work on to earn promotion.
*Dress in crew colors (grey/red/white/maroon/black) if you have the extra poe to spend on clothes. Dressing in our colors will make you look snazzy on our painted ships, and you’ll match with the officers. Makes us notice you. (note: this requirement is no longer strictly enforced)

Don’t:
*Give orders (unless you’re an officer)
*Question orders
*Spam crew or vessel chat.
*Ask “Are we there yet?” “Can we port?”,“When do we split the booty?”,or any variation of that question. We can only split the booty in port, and we port when we have enough booty
*Blatantly Ask to be promoted. This is the number one way to make sure you aren’t promoted. Instead, send a “tell” in-game to an Officer and ask what you can do to improve in order to earn a promotion.

Please also don't ask to borrow poe over crew chat, or in tells to other crew mates it can lead to uncomfortable situations and bad feelings.(and if it carries on could lead to you being asked to leave the crew)

By all means ask your hearties for loans, but be careful as there are unscrupulous people out there, who may not pay you back.

This crew is a family and as such we all want to help each other out by being a good sibling... so instead of saying "Please lend me 1k poe!", how about "Is anyone running a pillage? I'm trying to save up for a new sword!" An officer may even be able to let you know about any pilly that other crews in the flag are running at the time.

If there are no pillys running at that time....

There are plenty of crewmates that own shops, you could always buy a labour badge (costs 5 dubs) and work at a shop to earn money that way. There's no harm in asking "I'm good at Shipwrighting, anyone own a shop and need expert labour?" etc

Don't forget navy missions pay poe!!!! You can get your skills up and earn poe at the same time!!! If you've not got much time online ie 10mins or so, then navy missions are the best way to go, you can pick a mission and do your favourite duty puzzle, or try one you've not done before; either way you can always press "Esc" when in a duty puzzle, which pauses your screen and lets you still join in with crew chat. Very Happy

Ok, I have amended my inital post in this section slightly...

Originally crewmates only had to ask PTB (Permission To Board) for sloops and cutter, but as our crew numbers are growing and many more people are moving larger ships around either in preparation for blockades or for trade runs of fruit, I feel that the PTB rule needs amending.

PTB should be asked for ALL TLL ships unless the Captain of the ship states otherwise in Crew Chat:-

eg1 I click on the Port icon and see there are 2 crewmates on a Merchant Brig named "Happy Trout" - I say in crew chat "Ptb Happy Trout?" and wait for a reply - the Captain may be busy in battle etc and take a little while to respond, so you need to be patient. the Captain of the ship could say "Yep hop on" or "No sorry I'm doing a trade run and don't need anymore help right now" - If a Captain says no then please don't jump on their ship, they're not being nasty, just trying to explain their situation and they will let you know if they need your help later.

eg2 A crewmate types in Crew Chat "WB pilly on the Driving Permit, no need to ask ptb!" - well then hop right on in there and have some pillaging fun, like they said no need to ask PTB!

Feel free to PM me or port below if you have any queries, or just ask an Officer on Crew Chat, they may be able explain this all to you a bit better!

In case people didn't realise we have a new Captain for our crew... her name is Ara and she is generally very nice, just watch out for her overuse of duct tape and "doomfish" - it's all just meant in fun though so don't worry!!! Laughing

Hopefully she'll be making a post in this Section soon to introduce herself to all the people that are new to the crew.

Just so you know... she goes by Aptain Ara... TLL Captains like to be "different"! Wink

because some of you were not here when the strange captain names started here goes: TLL's third captain was named kathe, so she was kaptain kathe. our 4th captain was korr, so we kept the "k" in kaptain. now it's down to me =) so i must be an aptain..... can't really add another letter to keep that "a" there (and aaptain just looks wierd).

feel free to just call me "ara". start bowing and saluting and i'll smack you with a doom fish and duct tape you to the side of my sloop. my sloop is in need of more rock pillows. Twisted Evil

for those new to the crew or for those that previously just didn't know me, i am the 5th captain of the lost lot. i have been with this crew since nearly the beginning of it's life on sage. i came around about 2 or 3 weeks after it's creation.

since joining the lost lot, i haven't looked back. i love this crew and don't plan on leaving......ever. muahahahahaha

so, welcome to the lost lot, grab a seat and strap yourself in - it's going to be a fun ride.

keep an eye on these forums because there will be monthly forum games for you to participate in for various prizes. these will be posted in the crew only section, so make sure you have access. if you don't, find carrol in game and bug him to add you in, or bug him to tell me how to give people various permissions =)

remember - our officers are friendly (so long as you don't catch them after a really bad pillage) so feel free to ask any of them if you have any questions.
me, on the other hand..... i might duct tape you to the side of my sloop Twisted Evil

but i'm also always available for question asking.

If you register on the forum using your pirate name then I give you access to the "Crewbies Section" straight away (well I try to go through it 3 times a week to pick up all the people that are new to the crew and/or new to the forum)... If you have registered on the forum using a different name then please either post in the link below or send me a PM so that I know who your pirate is and what access you may require.

If for some reason I've been an idiot and missed out on giving you access then please post here :- Need access to "Crewbies Section" and either me or an Administrator will sort you out. Very Happy
