another idea:
i think that in rumbling, rather than SF, it's important to keep track of what your opponent is up to. you know when they're building strikes because there's nothing coming your way, so it's a good idea to send a strike to mess up their strike. also, when you see that they are coming close to the bottom, people often switch over to sprinkling in order to get in quick attacks. in my experience, it doesn't seem useful to send sprinkles right at the beginning - i usually try to start with a strike that hits before their first strike.
also - if you're better at sprinkling and your opponent isn't striking, don't try to strike. it's not worth the time it takes to build it.
