An event on the forums I entered into today required me to do a bit of browsing through Fishbase.org, and the names you can find there are indeed surprising. I have a microlist of renames from the few I noted (none of which are as clever as Sante's though). I just tagged on the most fitting adjectives I can think of.

Total Wreckfish
Gaud(y) Danggit
Romantic Dreamer
Okay Bai

"Lostie" is also a listed fish name!
As well as.. uh.. ahem... "Bëër" and "Buub". But hardly classy.
"Large-eyed froghead" I found funny as a name.

Total Wreckfish and Okai Bai are quite funny.

I think I might go for Total Wreckfish...assuming at some point I want a ship that I won't be able to sink.

I've never really played with standard renames before, so I'm gonna go waste some time... Razz

I suppose I'll start with A and work my way through. I'll put the selections I'm happiest with at the top, potentially good fish names in the middle (maybe somebody else can come up with a way to use them), and ones that are jokes or probably not allowed at the bottom.

How about:

Sublime Ablé Laughing

Red Alert
Alert Alert
All Along
Snowy Alp (Maybe a blue/white color scheme)
Yellow Amarillo (will make sense to those Spanish speakers out there... :p)
Right Angler (I'm a math nerd too, so geometry jokes are fun, right? Acute and Obtuse are acceptable as well.)
Swinging Axefish

About
Acura
Agun (Empty, Full, clean?)
Also
Ana (I wish "ban" was an adjective, you could do Banned Ana though...that would be amusing for greenie pilliages Laughing

I did compile a longer list of fish names that are, or are close to, English words (or other words I liked. Or common names.), on Yppedia - see http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/User:Lulunz/Sante's_List_of_useful_fish_names. (Don't forget the fullstop at the end!)

The list was originally done before they changed the rules and said the fishname doesn't have to be in English vernacular anymore. So then I started going through all the languages. I think I got to about M before I ran out of steam.

The only caution I'd give is that at least some OMs (I don't know if they all do - they need to decide a policy I think!) reject fishnames if the original has an accent in it, which would mean you couldn't use Ablé.
