I have paid for and arranged for 4,300 pineapples [1] to be left on a Grand Frigate.

I intend to use those 4,300 pineapples--FOR SCIENCE!

Everyone knows that the Black Frigate takes stuff. Experience strongly indicates that goods pillaged from brigands eventually end up being pillaged from brigands. (E.g., if somebody loses a shipment of green paint to normal brigands, other players end up winning cans of green paint from brigands later.)

However, as far as I know, there hasn't been much research on the Black Ship. Some people think that the Black Ship also funnels goods to the same brigand pool--but, as far as I know, no player has gathered any evidence one way or the other.

Hence, the experiment:

0) Get a GF with 4,300 pineapples--done!
1) The week before The Event, ask people on the game forums to note how many pineapples they win during pillages.
2) Lose 4,300 pineapples to the Black Ship
3) Ask people to log pillages pineapples again. If my hypothesis is correct, there will be a notable increase in the number of pillaged pineapples after the massive donation of pineapples to the Black Ship.

While step 2 could theoretically be done on a very, very small scale--just engage a sloop and be done with it--I'm thinking it would be much, much more fun to do it on a larger scale. That is, I think it would be a hoot to invite 150+ people on board willing to see how many skellies they can wipe out before the pineapples get stolen.

(Bonus research: approximately how many of the 150 skellies can we knock out? I don't know of any serious attempts at the Black Ship since it was beefed after its last loss.)

Any ideas on:

* motivating pillagers to log pillaged pineapple data? Hitting the official game forums is a must.
* getting a 150+ swordfighter party started to take a reasonable attempt at winning the fight? (I've never tried to organize an event before.)

I've only most of the supplies and a general concept in place now. I'm hoping the crew can help turn this idea into an event.

[1] Actually a few more, but, eh, going to have to kick a few off to leave a bit of room for rum...

Interesting! One general caveat, though:

Due to the popularity of fruit foraging, there's a chance of uncontrolled large injections of fruit into the system too (your baseline value would be higher as floaters lose their own fruit to brigands).

Have you considered a non-fruit commodity instead? There's plenty of cheap herbs, or perhaps stone- whatever puts the most units in a frig for cheap... and I suspect there's going to be a lot less people floating a 5-poe commodity across the ocean than there are fruit floaters.

1) The crew collectively already has a ton of pineapples (and will have a ton of pineapples even after the 4300 fruit experiment).
2) Pineapples are, I feel, inherently funnier items than stone.
3) I've seen fruits on pillages but they're always in very small amounts.
4) The Black Ship hits harder. Much harder. A GF floater can lose, at most, 432 pineapples at a time and takes 3 consecutive hits to lose 1170.
5) Got bid orders in for stone at all four markets in case further research is needed. They're going to take a LONG while to accumulate, though.
6) There's no guarantee that 1 to 5 PoE items aren't being floated. Economically, it may make more sense to float wood/stone/sugar than pineapples.

Hmm...I might want to put in an order for cowslip, just in case, though--probably the only item that's both cheap and portable.
