I had this idea in the morning and though I might not have time to make it real in nearest future, I would still like to know your opinion on this...
I don't know if there ever were any auctions held in a way I was thinking of - as far, as I know they are only held on YPP forums. I thought of auction that would be held in one of the inns in-game, perhaps on Admiral, as there are mostly many pirates looking to buy/sell things. The auction would go like that: owner of the inn would be informed and consulted on week before, so he/she could place a notice like: "Atlantean Auction on xx, xx pm game time! Contact XX for more informations or with items you want to put on auction." Then, possibly, pirates will contact the person mentioned. On the day of the auction, items will be mentioned in specified order, then buyers could send tells with their prices and highest bids will be announced in shouts, so everyone will know if they want to continue or not.
Of course, the person leading the auction will expect some part of the final price. I thought of like 10%, maybe less, basing on possibility, that items sold in such "real life" auction will achieve higher bids than on forums...
I hope my language abilities made it possible for you to understand my idea, if not, I apologise>.>
I wonder what do you think about this idea. Will it have any chances of coming into life? Or where there anything like that held before without success? |

I like the idea Nadira, but there are a lot of concerns with that kind of idea:
1. Finding the inn owner to contact. You can try PMs over the forums or try in-game, but that is VERY difficult.
2. Trying to quiet those not in the auction. When you do something in an inn, most people are not going to cooperate b/c they only care about themselves. Also, they are going to try and do the same thing with their items, which will conflict with your event.
3. Drawing interest. You would have to have some nice items to draw a crowd in which you are going to make a decent amount on the items (unless items are all donated of course). Most "high-rollers" want to buy high-prices items for relatively cheap and they want slaves of some sorts (even though no one ever comes through with their offers hehe)
In conclusion, I think it is a great idea, but will take A LOT of hard work on the event planners part and it would be very hard to find someone with the patience and time, so it seems like it is (for the most part) unrealistic. _________________ I won't sleep until I have a BK trinket...............I won't sleep unt................I won't sl.............I................**passes out** |

What if it wasn't done at an inn, say on a ship, they could be jobbed just like a blockade. Or on the dock of a small island that doesn't have lots of people hanging around. Or in one of the shops we own...
Or It could be done in a large house that is set to let anyone walk around. All furniture could be taken out except for what was on 'sale'. It could still be done in a standard auction, where it is announced what is up for auction, and people send tells. While people could walk around and look to see if anything interests them. Then it could be advertised as a party in the house options as well. The auctioneer could say what room the item is in too for people to see it. Anyway, just some thoughts there. I do like the idea. _________________ Yarg...

I can’t comment about the auction aspect of it, but it would be nice to have shoppes/stalls to have a “rack” like tailors have.
You could place ships up for sale, or swords, etc, so that a sales transaction could take place for an already made item, without a manager being present.
Just think about going to a vending machine (at work or at school) and purchase your favorite color (premade) sword and take home with you without having to wait (or convert dubs). |

Nadira great idea and I would say that the way Maggie describes the method as great way to showcase you stuff and state the sell price!
I very much agree with you Bud regarding having a rack for all shoppes. Especially if you can store said items in something (like a wardrobe, trunk, etc) then I don't see an issue with having shoppes have racks. Have you suggested this in the game design YPP forum?? |

It has been mentioned in GD (Game design) many a time, and it is something on the "to do" list. |
