Okay, it's been a bit quiet round here lately, so time to inject a little fun and foolery.

Bullseyebud recently asked me if I could suggest some alternative names for the crew Tailor on Bowditch. It's currently called "She Turned Me into A Suit", which is a bit long winded, and doesn't abbreviate easily. And isn't quite as witty as it could be. And as we all know, Wit is the Soul of Brevity too long.

So, I put on my thinking hat - the nice lime and pink one Tilinka gave me for suggesting "Fit on my Fez" - and came up with...

Well, not very much actually.

So far, I've got:

"Frock off, I'm full" - which might be a little crass;
"The Holey Veil" - okay, by my reckoning, but perhaps not zippy enough;
"The Philosopher's Thong", "Judean People's Frock", and "Non-illegal Robery" which are possibly a bit obscure, and, not quite zippy enough either.

Therefore, I call upon my loyal crewmates to assist in this valiant endeavour: come up with a better name for the Tailor on Bowditch.

WARNING: I will be running this event in a very long-winded way. When we have enough entries (probably after this weekend), I will put up a vote. After the vote has run for an appropriate period, I will take those entries which, together, have captured 50% of the total vote, and run them off against each other (sort of like how the Peruvian presidential system works...). I may do this more than once, until we have a clear winner.

RULES:

1. As per the Bowditch naming scheme, your entry must reference Monty Python. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python if you're not familiar with them.

2. Entries must be 35 characters or less (the maximum length for a shop name)

3. If your suggested name is long, you should suggest a shortened version of 3 or less words for easy reference when typing, e.g. I'm sure the managers of "I'm a Lumberjacket and I'm OK" just call it Lumberjacket when they're sending tells.

4. Please check http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/Bowditch_Island_%28Sage%29 to ensure the name you've suggested isn't too close to existing island names. "Every Suit is Sacred" is a fine name, but not so great when the island already has a shipyard called "Every Sloop is Sacred". I reserve the right to veto names that are too similar to something already in use.

5. You may enter as many times as you like.

6. There is no rule 6.

PRIZES.

There shall be prizes. I'm still working on what they will be, but they will probably include any or all of:

1. A holy grail - your choice of yellow and/or grey (the cheapskate's gold and silver!) drinking vessel,

2. A shrubbery - your choice of crate of hemp; plant in pot, plant in vase.

3. Knights who say "Ni!" Chainmail - in crew colours red and grey. Okay, maroon if you prefer.

4. Eternal glory... and if whoever's in charge likes the name, maybe even your name on a Shoppe!

Last, I reserve the right to change any or all of the rules as the event progresses!

Fair enough. I'll include the current name in the list for voting.

My favorite scene in the Holy Grail has always been when they're calling to "Bring out your dead!" and the old man says, "I'm not dead yet!", so in honor of the old man, I propose:

I'm Not Dressed Yet

I have always liked the part with the Wooden Rabbit, but it's the line after it that I enjoy the most: "Well...if we made a wooden badger..."

So my name is:
Clothin' Badger

Bud (or Elaria) - I know Monty Python can sometimes be a bit obscure. It'd help if you could identify the reference for me?

Unless it's just being Pythonesque, by calling a tailor something that sounds like a shipyard?

I was going to suggest something along the lines of "And now for something completely dazzling" but that's far too long.

All I can think of is "What is your favourite colour?"

Is "your mohair was a hamster" taken?

EDIT: Seems not. Here's a list of names of existing places, though I'm not sure it's up to date. http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/Bowditch_Island

Totally hoping we don't have to name too many more; overbuilding is never fun. (Especially if Scrim's economy is still weaker than Admiral's was. Wasn't THAT a mess...)

Here's another one:

The Holey (or Holy) Chainmail or
The Holey (or Holy) Mail or
The Holey (or Holy) Maile

I think this is an obvious pun on what is probably the most popular Monty Python movie, "The Holy Grail" and on chainmail as any good chainmail will have numerous holes Razz! Laughing

Dang! Didn't check the other shoppe names first...oh well, enjoy, but do not vote for the following:

In (obvious) reference to the Ministry of Silly Walks, how about

(The) Ministry of Silly Frocks

Though that doesn't say much for the clothing tastes of our customers...

or...

(The) Ministry of Frilly Frocks
(The) Ministry of Silly Socks
(The) Ministry of Frilly Socks

...course, we don't wear socks, do we?

I also really like Jezzibel's suggestion (made in game) - even if it is close to another name (the commodities market is A kind of Spanish Acquisition), it may be too cool for me to care:

The Spandex Inquisition

Some major ball-dropping here. I admit I slightly forgot - was preparing a paper for a conference, and have been away for the last 10 days in association with the conference. I am therefore giving you all 24 hrs to get in any last entries - I'll list below the ones I have so far - and put the vote up on the weekend. If I forget again, REMIND ME!

The Holey Veil (me)
She Turned Me Into A Suit (current)
I'm Not Dressed Yet (kittykatz)
Woollen Badger (Bobofarc. Not his actual entry, but his credit. I improved it :-P)
Chic Yard (Bullseyebud, though I still haven't seen the Monty Python link)
What is your favorite color? (Kharnor. American spelling for less letters.)
Your Mohair was a Hamster (Pauling)
The Holey Mail (kittykatz)
Ministry of Frilly Socks (my favourite of Whoosy's)
The Spandex Inquisition (Jezzibel)

As ever,
Sante

Well, I don't really like this one, but maybe someone else can improve upon it.

Referring to the skit Upper Class Twit of the Year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Class_Twit_of_the_Year

Upper Class Outfit of the Year
