For those who don't follow the ice ocean much.... well, it's the place where new YPP releases are tested first for players, and it can be accessed by those who've given Three Rings real money recently.
Why is this important? Even if you can't play it to try new things before they come, it's helpful to check the YPPedia copy of the release notes now and then when new furniture or ships are put out for testing. For example, the recent release of Dhows and Baghlahs was a surge of orders for those who stocked up on the commodities needed beforehand, and lots of other shops lost out on orders or narrowed their profit margins when prices spiked as everyone tried to buy the materials (like wood) at once.
So, here's a thread for those watching the new releases to figure out what commodities might spike. Bear in mind that furniture with one color is sometimes modified later to allow two (ie the pillows that seem to guarantee yellow cloth demand right now): ice recipes are subject to change. But as the release gets closer, stock up and be ready to cash in!
...For example, the new pavilions in the upcoming release require gold, or so I've read. A strategically placed furnisher with ready stocks could make some nice markup if they're ready to process multiple orders, with a good fast labor queue. Other thoughts?

There's now a blacksmithing puzzle in testing on ice.
This will require people to do a labor puzzle for ironmongers, to make such basic pillage supplies as cannonballs. One consequence of this, I suspect, is that the labor market and wages will adjust as the new puzzle comes out, and there may be a period of confusion and price swings until expert labor sorts itself out.
That said, there might be some profits to be made by stocking up on cheaper, low/alt waged products that require expert labor (especially at the larger islands) and selling them as prices rise after the puzzle is officially released.
...Can't guarantee it (the last time a crafting puzzle came out was even before I started), but it might be an investment with a good payoff. Worst case, you could probably sell them to the flag eventually as blockade supplies.

Well part of one of the latest releases was Swabbie transport, so Space and I thought we'd press the "Swabbie Transport" button for a GF and see what happened....
Wow now that's a LOT of swabbies
