useless poll just for fun.
But seriously now, why did you join our crew?
Personally, I joined because the Captain (at the time) and all the officers (at the time) were my friends from real life. But, hehe, I'm the only one of them that still plays the game regularly now.
So how about the rest of you? _________________ Korr

Well, I didn't know the Captain when I joined...but Bellflower's a pretty hot little number and she's the one who was running the pillage and joined me up..does that count?
Alright, I'll behave. I'd tried out a few different crews before joining TLL. Of all the crews I'd joined/jobbed with only one really seemed organized and fun to hang around with..that was actually Hell's Angels However, after playing for a few days without seeing HA on the job board I found TLL. I checked out the info...same flag..hmmm that sounded promising. So applied for the job. I had a blast during the pillage..didn't say much but really got a good chuckle from all of the joking around going on. And lo and behold when our journey ended I actually made some poe! I stood about on the ship for a bit because it seemed a bit hectic and I wanted to know if we'd be setting sail again. When things calmed down I asked Bell if she was heading back out anytime soon and she said she was done but offered me a permanent position And so here I am..for better for worse (I'd say for richer/poorer but I spend far too much poe for the richer to sound plausible ) It's been a fun ride |

I played on Viridian a few days, joining the game just before Sage opened... just long enough to grow to dislike the lag and the captains who verbally abuse their crewmates. I came over to Sage liking the puzzles, but not the Viridian crews I jobbed with, and landed myself on a pillage with Bell (I imagine this'll be a theme among the old folks here, as she used to run a lot of recruiting pillages).
Goodness! It was well-run, we got paid well, and when I boarded the ship, carp and bilge weren't at max. Sure, Bell dangled me over the railings as bait, but in a good way, and I think displaying the friendly atmosphere (and not "booching" the phrase "I hate all jobbers stupid fools all your fault" every few minutes) made me more than willing to accept a spot as cabbie at the end. The other officers I met were also very experienced and clueful, and a blast to pillage with, or to sit and chat with a greenie with delusions of capitalism. _________________ Officer emeritus and occasional cabin person

Let me recall chronological events :
1) discovered game a few month ago after seeing some ad on a web comic site.
2) tried the game, found I shall be clever enough to perform decently in a game that had the benefit of being free to play
3) after puzzling a bit, found myself in the crew "Shadow Company", was not overly impressed by their style, but I needed to try being in a crew, and that one was not the worst I had tried through pillages
4) was there for the first blockade of Sage (Kent) with the Shadow Company people bragging about a victory they were sure to get before anything started (found them overconfident) and as I disliked that attitude I made my best to disturb their crew (my crew at that time) on crew channel.
5) the Shadow Company lost, I left them less than an hour after demise (I shall have mentioned Tactical was ridiculous and overall I always found that crew to not be brilliant nor fair to its jobber nor knowledgeable nor skilled nor organized nor deserving my true fidelity)
6) just to ensure Kent would not be taken back by the Shadow Company, that did not deserved it, I decided to take side with the winners, TLL at that time
7) after some notice board snooping I finally found a TLL pillage open, and got a job
8) liked the pillage, and got a permanent position
9) after that, well, I learned to know the crew a bit more and the history from that point, although only a few month long, would take me too much time to write (and also to properly recall)
Justix
P.S. : You may have been deceived by that story, but truth is not always all pink and fluffy. I'll try to speak about butterflies and bunnies next time. |

| I played on Midnight for about a day, and found it to be already well established. I heard that Sage opened just a few weeks before and decided to move over because I liked places that are starting fresh, so I can be a part of something big from the start. TLL/TLB had the talent, ambition and ships to do something special so I joined up to be there and witness it all first hand. |

hmmm i was a neopet addict and always saw this ad for puzzle pirates and wondered what it was all about. at the time i only had dial up internet and knew that if there as anything to download it would be hell to play.
mom and dad finally caved in to cable modems but not by anying i said or did (as i said nothing) they got tired of the time it took to download a single page. so, it was a coupld days after we got our shiney new cable modem when i saw that ad on neopets again. i said, what the hell, and went for it. my down load time? maybe 5 minutes. hehehehe
at any rate, i did the navy missions for a bit as a was discovering the game and walking everywhere (rather then use the little map in the upper right corner) and it took me ages to get any where (i would like to say, that i didn't discover the little map thingy until i was an officer in this crew hehehe)
i jobbed for a few crews and joined after the pillage (yes, with all of them) but no one was ever really on with those crews so i didn't learn the wonders of /crew chat. and even when there were other people on, they rarely ran pillages (and i hadn't figured out the joys of the different chat options yet) and had no way to communicate with them even if they did.
it was a bellflower pillage that i joined from the notice board and did the same thing i had done for the past week or so: joined up after the pillage. it just so happened that on that same day, i discovered how to change my chat so that i was talking on /crew rather then /speak and actually got to know my crew mates.
on that same day i had discovered how to forage on uninhabited islands. i had been asking how it was done and no one would explain it to me, so a fellow greenie was asking how to forage and i explained it to him and went to give him my labor badge and found that it didn't work - couldn't trade it. also being new, i was very generous with my money and ended up giving him the dubs to buy a labor badge and also how to go about buying one.
the other officers were impressed for some odd reason and made me pirate on the spot.
i've been here ever since. =) _________________ Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

easily, I can explain how I joined TLL. One word (hopefully it rings a bell for everyone...): Scarymuffin.
As some of you know, he's my writing tutor IRL. Sure, he's 7 years older than me, so what? There appears to be a huge age gap between the oldest and youngest players of this game (easily beats 60 years 0.o) Anyhow, sometimes my parents would arrive late to pick me up from class, and I'd watch him chill on his laptop. This YPP game he showed me was quite the catch. It had the cutest characters (seriously) and I thought the complexity of the puzzles would stretch my skill (okay, not really, I still suck at most of the puzzles). So I decided to launch into the game. And I was such a greenie back in the day that I didn't even know how to move when I was stuck in a clutter of trees (I didn't know I could click on the map and jump around the island). So I quit, because obviously, 3 trees standing in your way is not amusing. After a while, Muffin started boasting about his crew, smacking everyone in PvP, owning up blockades, and him being all pwerfully famous ("o" left out intentionally). Something about these dudes running away from him saying they were scared of his ship and he wasn't even on the ship. He told me to join, and I thought "Why not? Sounds good!". So I sent him a tell when he was on one day and here I am. I've been around this crew for a while, but I don't play that much. I may be more active in the summer. Anyhow, to all the new pirates and cabiners in the crew, Ahoy! I'm Backsword (you can call me Special Box Item or limited box object but please refrain from B.S.) and I'm a Cabin Person in this crew (switched over from Smiteria who's stats are just horrible. And I can't get them up for some stupid reason) _________________ Backsword. Rumble rumble rumble rumble roar roar bang... |

Ok, I see this is a thread that I, even I, should be entitled to add on.
I joined TLL during one of my first few days in YPP. Been offerred positions in 2 crews prior to TLL, and just accepted without knowing much. Found TLL through the notice board, got jobbed, and was impressed with booty payout. (Okay, I admit that what initially sold me was the booty.) And from then, I was too afraid to ever leave the crew, in case another power-pillage happened and I wanted to be there. _________________ Andikan

Ok well, I started off on midnight with a 14 day trial. Then did another trial and the crew I was with at the time were all sad I was gonna be vanishing after the trial expired but alas.
Anyway, I heard that there was a new non-subscriber ocean opening and so ran over to look. I think I just came over on the 20/10/2005, but I do know thats the day I made Tyrant, with the release of the dreds and thus I was one of the first with that hair style.
Randomly jobbing I joined TLL within 2 days of creating Tyrant, probably just because I wanted a crew. I didn't really interact much with the rest of the crew and just quietly pillaged and navy-ied away, concentrating more on my stats than anything else, until I dropped off doing my assignments for college over late november early december time.
My xmas sebatical had left me hungry for YPP and when I came back I some how clicked properly into the crew, feeling a stronger connection than I had felt before. Within a month I was an officer.
I have to admit before xmas, my memory of my time in TLL basically consists of the halloween zombie fest. Thats it. Thats all I remember. I don't have a good memory, and most of what I've said about that time is guess work... _________________ Overall despot of the world,

I remember you from back then... most famously when you aspired to move up in carp after being at #18 (or was it #8 and kinda challenged me. _________________ Andikan

Well, I thought it was #8 but ult tracker tells me 18 so I must believe it. Anyway, I thought I was the donkey's elbows at carping. I still do generally find myself the best carp on most ship's if I try.
One day....one day I WILL reach #1 carp... I'll keep aiming for the dream! And will spend a week navy carping _________________ Overall despot of the world,

Nice to see that three people that I recruited are still with us! I know there's a few more. I admit that I enjoy running greenie brig pillages. I'm obviously not concerned about my stats.
I'm not sure who should get the bonus points for recruiting me. I had met Kathe on a sloop pillage and heartied her. A week or so later, I jobbed on Korr's brig pillage and enjoyed it. Neither one of them offered me a spot in the crew, I had to ask! (Actually, Korr was Tweedledum then and The Lost Lot was on Viridian. I kind of miss Tweedledum...the name always made me smile.)
At the time, I was an ex-Midnight player just logging in to Viridian to satisfy an urge to puzzle. I wasn't really planning to do much other than be a wandering pirate, crewless, footloose and fancy-free. When I realized that my two enjoyable pillages were with officers from the same crew, I kept looking for their posted pillages. Tweedledum gets the credit for letting me into the crew.
