If you like to emote yourself when chatting to other pirates,
you can type in things such as this:
: )
: (
: D
: P
If these are not to your liking, you can do a bit more sophisticated
smilies such as these:
To do these (In the game) Simply hold down the Alt. key then press a
number on the NumPad then release Alt. and it should be there
For example, if you Hold Alt. press 3 on the NumPad, then release Alt.
You get this ♥ |

Right?
Oh, and your logic in Part 2 seems to contradict the logic in the answer to Test Your Knowledge... And that answer is what actually happens, I do believe. |

One thing that I have found useful, especially in
Rumble, is instead of using the mouse to team on
a certain enemy, you can use the 'a' and 's' keys to
scroll through opponents to team on. There are... I
think three bad things with this.
1. It's annoying to go through every character if you
want to get to the bottom of the skellies, for example.
2. I'm not sure how to defend on rumble using them
3. 'a' is up, and 's' is down. (I know, that's not really a
bad thing

| This also works with sf, and the teaming wraps around, too. If you're at the top, and want to be at the bottom, just go up, and you'll end up down there, rather than needing to go down through a big long list. |

a small note onto the first lazy command list, you can add /me after any command on the pull tab list to make yourself emote. For example, typing /cr /me with emote through the crew chat. This doesn't seem to work on the none standard chats like /o and /fo, nor does it work on tells . |

just to add to what lomky said - if you use the pull down bar to change chats, you will end up /speak 'ing what you were emoting rather then putting it to the chat you wanted.
so if you are on a different chat (say vessel) and don't actually type in /crew /me, then you will end up /speak /me instead.
yeah - i know it's stupid, but do you have any idea of how many times i went to say a tell and ended up speaking it?
/me grabs proud's butt is not something i would normally say to a group of strangers unless he was in the chat circle and it brings around a round of butt grabbing. _________________ Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

Another INCREDIBLY-SLOW-AVERA-REALISES-SOMETHING-THAT-EVERYONE-ELSE-KNEW Moment. Brought to you by Much Rum and Lack Of Functioning Braincells:
| Quote: | | Avera says, ":O OMGAD. I can drag distilling bubbles.." *head to keyboard action* |
I use the spacebar, rather than left-mouse-click when I puzzle. And since I couldn't drag with the spacebar held down in Distilling, I assumed I couldn't with the mouse either (because in Shipwrightery you can use either), so I've been flipping each bubble with the next individually. Which is so slow that it's only slightly faster than my brain.
Bad Karma from not reading tutorials (Again. A certain Athalrianish person knows the other incident) At least I can pretend that I gained an uberability after levelling up from -2. _________________ ~~~ ^_____^ ~~~ |

Since you so eagerly pointed out, you do know that drags are allowed in shipwrighting too, aye? Not that huge of a difference though. What about adjustment in carp?
On a lighter note, it's just so weird that roomies such as you and Teal are so different ... _________________ Andikan

Experience ++ for double posting.
Not sure if this was mentioned, but I will (again). When battling a cutter, the standard is to count 7.5 to max, either 8 shots or 7 shots + ram. However, if the cutter is Barbarians and not Brigands, 7 shots will max it because there is no such thing as "half-damage" in rumble.
Similarly, if your sloop incurs a single ram in a Barbarians battle, it is 1 damage for the first, third, fifth ... max at eleventh ram (O.o). _________________ Andikan

thanks to all the foraging, i'm learning a lot about alts, which might be useful for the less-experienced players to hear:
alts = pirates other than the one you use most of the time
(ex. i am Scurvysuz, but i'm also KevinKline and Wcwsuz on this account)
* you can have up to 3 pirates on 1 account, and i've heard that you can have up to 5 accounts on 1 computer (Carrol can probably verify this )
* you can open two windows of PP at the same time (thereby having several pirates that you control online at one time)
* dubloons are accessible from any of the 3 pirates on 1 account
* if someone wants to make a large wager in a game and they appear to have have a low ranking, it's probably an alt for a better player, and you'll get screwed if you play against them (ex. Jimbo pirate wants to play a game of SF for 1000poe and is "Able")
* i believe that all 3 pirates on 1 account have their original "home" on the same island
* a good way to avoid using whisking potion to get to far away places is to make a few alts on a separate account that have a "home" on the islands you usually want to get to. then, invite yourself over.
anyone else have alt tips? |

|
|
i'd love to post all of the abbreviations people usually use and assume other people understand. i find it very frustrating when people use abbreviations that i don't understand, so i thought it might be helpful for newer players to check this out.
some may be obvious to you, others not so much.
in no particular order:
YPP = Puzzle Pirates
TLL = The Lost Lot, our crew
CCC = Candy Coated Chaos, our flag
poe = piece of eight
dub = dubloon
ptb = permission to board. ask this on crew chat before boarding a vessel.
alt = another pirate you control (see above)
XO = the person on a big ship who is in charge of keeping everyone in line.
SF = swordfighting
td = treasure drop
skellies = when you are at least Narrow/Renowned at SF, a mission will appear that will let you battle against pirate skeletons with other pirates - they appear only every few hours, but always after a PP reboot.
GM, Leg, Ult = Grand-master, Legendary, Ultimate
JO, FO, SO = junior officer, fleet officer, senior officer
shang, shanghi = when a person buys dubloons with real money, a shanghi goes to their crew and will help someone be able to rename their ship (this is simplified...)
combos = essential to good puzzling. make a relay of events occur in whatever puzzle you're working, and it will exponentially amplify the event. (ex. double, triple, bingo, donkey, vegas)
insta = instant kill in SF. when you set up a particular combo, you can do this to your opponent. ask Pacyk or Sweetmantwo about this.
teaming = when in a large SF or rumble, you can attack an oponent together with other people on your team. look for little dots to the left of your oponent's face/puzzling board. the dots indicate how many people are fighting that 1 person (make sure that there are 2 or 3 for SF and 3 or 4 for rumbling). your dot will be circled in white.
barbies = not the dolls. barbarians. they rumble instead of SF in pillages.
afk = away from keyboard - you can do away messages, too.
d/c = disconnect. when yer computer or PP poops out on you.
vent = Ventrillo, a program outside of PP that lets you talk with other people using a microphone and your speakers. this can be a lot of fun and also very helpful, since asking your questions is easier than typing them and since most people on Vent are experienced and can help you!
QM = quartermaster, a program outside of PP that some people use when leading a pillage.
floating = moving a ship without using it to pillage or transport commodities.
memming = when a pirate is doing the navigation puzzle in an effort to "memorize" a particular route between two islands.
commods = commodities are things you can forage
forage = you can do this on a ship at a non-colonized island when you have a labor badge. whatever you find while doing this goes into the hold of the ship, not to the individual pirates.
wiki = Puzzle Pirates wikipedia: yppedia.com. check this for a ton of useful information!
if there are ohter ones you hear and don't understand, just ask! everyone on TLL is very helpful and won't shun you for asking questions. also, please post more of these, as i'm sure i left some out. |

i forgot two:
LP = league point. there are a number of these on routes between islands. they are resting points, a good way to measure time & distances, and a time for DRs:
DR = duty report (the thing that pops up at a LP to tell you how you're doing when you're puzzling on a ship) |

Actually the limit to the number of windows you can open is more down to the capabilities of your computer. Our main computer can handle at least 8 different clients at one time, and probably a few more....whereas our laptop can handle 2-3 and if I'm using both QM and vent, then 1 at times can be a struggle, and I may d/c (see how I used your abbreviations!!!!)
| ScurvySuz wrote: | | * i believe that all 3 pirates on 1 account have their original "home" on the same island |
Jezz and I have alts on the same account who are on different islands of the same arch, we have some on completely different arches as well, but I can't remember if we did that deliberately. _________________ I have CDO....that's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but alphabetically.....like it should be! |

In conjunction with using the Up-Arrow and also someone said about Ahoy getting the most tells because, I find myself doing this a lot, that you write: '/tell Ahoy How are you?'
But if you do that, or spell the persons name wrong, you can press the up arrow, and it will have exactly what you wrote... Hard to understand :-/
Here's an example:
/tell Randompirat Heya
Could not tell Randompirat: That user is not online.
^^Up Arrow^^
Comes up with this:
/tell Randompirat Heya
So you can easily edit it to this:
/tell Randompirate Heya.
lol, hard to explain. Nevermind

I don't know how many people know of this carping trick, but I'd never heard of it (and it's not on YPPedia ) until Whoosy stumbled across it and told me about it. And it's saved me many a time!!!
When you misplace a carp piece by just a square, like so:
Don't bang your head on the keyboard, because there's a way to fix it!!!
Notice that when you first place a carpentry piece, it has a blue outline. Once you pause, click on another piece in the box, or place another piece, the outline turns to black.
Compare:
Black---------------------------------------------Blue
As long as the misplaced piece is outlined in blue, if you click once on it, it will become transparent again. Now you can move it just as if you hadn't placed it, with one exception. You can only move it one square up, down, left, or right.
Once you have it where you want it, just click again and...
Voila!!
Note that once you have moved it once, it turns black, so you can't move it twice. Although hopefully you wouldn't need to!!! _________________ Of all the things I've lost...
