After a lot of playing round with ship names in the last few days, I thought I'd start a resource here for interesting fish names for those who like to play with such things. I've put them down as shipnames - note that all the second words here are actual names of fish, from fishbase, in English (and of course the first words are all adjectives...). So all the following would be standard renames.

However, I can't guarantee that these names haven't been found and used by others - I didn't have time to check them.

Hungry Messmate
Clean Sweep (for Nanase ;-))
Dreamy Stargazer
Head Porbeagle
Pointy Arrowtail
Lazy Yawning
Shrewd Foxface
Young Visitor (for all you Daisy Ashworth fans)
Sharp Javelin
Crazy Wahoo
Wide Smiler
Glistening Pearlsides
Greedy Gobbleguts
Darling Daggertooth (A present for Darla?)
Tonguey Twister
Accurate Bullseye
Kiwi Kawakawa (for my compatriots...)
Vampiric Fangtooth
Chocolate Oreo (yum!)
Ultimate Skilfish
Nevermore Ravenfish (in praise of Poe...)
Sulky Pouting
Kissable Pout
Dirty Grubby
Which Witch
Scuppering Scup
Cool Stonecat
Poetic Quillfish
Elephantine Tusk
Kid Cisco
Lost Searcher

Hey, it'd give me no greater pleasure than to see my ideas used ('cos I don't imagine I'll ever end up with that many ships. What would I do with them all?)

And ideas for events are always good!

But wait!

There's more!:

Rogue Bludger (yep, reading my daughter HP right now)
Bloody Redfingers (Macbeth, anyone?)
Hissing Snakelet
Prominent Jutjaw (okay, wouldn't actually want a ship called this, but anyway.)
Weary Soldier
Open-mouthed Gaper
Stripy Zebra
Puffy Bloater
Fluffy Ruffe
Attentive Luvar (okay, that one might be ruled a bit... dodgy)
Joky Gag
Incomprehensible Grunt
Loveable Scamp
Rhythmic High-hat
Gossipy Tattler
Driving Permit

And... the something Oscar (Top? Directing? Best? Golden? Statuesque?)

Not sure if you know this or not yet, but according to Bia, the fishnames do NOT have to be in English. So you can have all sorts of wacky ones, as long as people can spell them.

Nefarious Kharius, here I come! Very Happy

Yep, I'm on that one Kharnor!

(Sante mumbles something about having been the one that asked Bia the vital question in the Game Design thread).

Now I have to figure out a way to extract all one-word fish names from fishbase, to keep my wiki page up to date. Oy.

Just in case anyone has not seen it, ships may now be renamed after pirates, provided that it's a real word as defined by dictionary.com. Guess this means "Scapegoat" is now my pirate name, my crew title AND my ship name. Tres cool!!!

On the other hand, non-standard renames for sloops have gone up from 4 to 6 shangs, just a forewarning.

Wow....Spacehog is in the dictionary too!!!!!

Not that I'd ever be able to afford to rename a ship...but it's nice to know!
