|
|
i was on a navy ship working on my gunning because it had gone back down to the dreaded grand-master level and i needed it back up to legendary (ult would have been ideal, but i just don't have the patience some days).
while i was there, this girl working the other gun kept on getting booched while here i am getting excellent and incredible. she asked me how to do the darn puzzle so i explained.
i realized that there may be members of the crew that are having difficulties with this puzzle and i want you to know that i am more then willing to help you out.
i can put a guide here on the forum, but it won't have screen shots due to my poor computer skills, but i can explain it so that it can be understood.
it would, however, be much easier to ask me in game where we can go on a navy ship and practice =)
if you are having difficulties with an aspect of gunning and don't need a whole explination, feel free to ask here and either i or another experienced gunner can answer your questions =) _________________ Duct tape is like the Force. I love some help with gunning. Although I've heard (and used) quiet a few different tricks/ways to gun, my gunning is still erm...lacking so I must be doing something wrong It probably would be most beneficial if you could just explain the whole thing anyway
And speaking of getting help with certain puzzles, now that I have my 'official' officer ranking back I would really really really like to start training _________________ Of all the things I've lost...

ok, i will try to verbalize here, but if it sounds confusing - it's not ment to be. again - i don't have screen shots, so, if someone wants to just put a few up on this post, it can help to talk about them here as well.
ok:
bear in mind that the pieces will move in a clockwise direction at all times - so, don't try to make the pieces move in a counter clockwise direction because you will just be wasting time and energy.
so -
if a piece is moving in ~~~> this direction and hits a wall or object, it will move in
l
l
V this direction.
if a piece is moving in
l
l
l
V this direction and hits a wall or object, it will move in <~~~~ this direction.
if a piece is moving in <~~~~~ this direction and hits a wall or object, it will move in
^
l
l
l this direction.
if a piece is moving in
^
l
l
l this direction and hits a wall or object, it will move in ~~~~> this direction.
does that make sense?
ok, so what i suggest when you are first starting out gunning is to take your finger and put it on the barrel. you read right - take your finger and put it on your computer screen over the barrel. now(hit pause or "p" or the escape button to pause) take your finger and move it over to the right hand wall (just like a piece would move) and follow around the board in a clockwise direction and following the way a piece would move (so, when you are coming down to the right bottom corner - if there is nothing there to stop you - where would the piece go?). the first few times this will take a long time to do. as you become proficient at this you will not need to pause the board - i do this with my eyes in about 3 seconds.
when i look for a board, i look for a board that i only need to redirect the pieces 1 or 2 times and use the remaining arrow to direct the pieces into the cannon. i also look for a board that i can make the pieces go around all 4 cannons in a continuous mannor.
i will only use a 1 or 2 arrow board for a sloop, but anything larger and i will also use boards where i can only get 2 of the cannons in a loop (or if korr really needs it, i'll loop around only 1 cannon).
does this make sense? like i said, if someone can post some screenies of gunning boards this can make it alot easier. _________________ Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

Thanks, Ara, that was a good tidbit about looping around only 2 guns on larger vessels. I had been doing that anyway, but I
wasn't 100% sure that it was a good practice.
So, Korr shoots alot, eh? Now I know why Pauling asked me if Korr had taught me to bnav...but I bet Korr hits a lot more often
than I do.

Actually I usually just shoot whenever I think I might maybe hit. And since I'm usually just guessing at where the enemy is going to move, sometimes I hit a lot, and sometimes I fire 8 balls into the water. In the end, I'm the one paying for the cannonballs, so it doesn't bother me that much.
Eventually I'll put some effort into it and learn to better predict AI movement, then I'll be more accurate, and easier on my gunners.
But some good has come from me shooting a lot: Ara is a superb gunner, and now she's teaching all of you =P _________________ Korr

see, i got good at gunning when i gunned for udu on his pillages and i was like - this is sweet - i can keep up with udu and everyone says he's the hardest to keep up with.
so, full of myself as a gunner, i offered to gun for korr. HA!!!
i get this tell from korr during the bnav - ara, try to keep up, i really needed that last cannon loaded.
but i fixed you korr - i can load an average of 3 a turn =P sometimes 4 if i have a good board =P (and teal - shush you =P ) _________________ Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

I sometimes get bored gunning for Teal, Scary or Andikan (or the like) because they fire maybe 1 ball every other turn. The majority of them hit, but I'm falling asleep! I'd much rather gun for Korr any day. _________________ The North - clean, friendly, fun and ruling the ocean |

Aww Korr - ya seeem a bit put off by the tone of yer post.
Ara tells me I shoot like Korr.
Is this not War? [when trying to max a brigand?]
Then shoot like war!! Rawr!!
Besides, how else do we keep fresh fish for the crew, but shoot the water full of holes!
Let the Cabbies pick up the Redneck fish kill & a feast will be had!!
Every once in a while I even accidently hit a Kraken & a great celebration ensues.
So when Ara or others suggest i shoot like Korr, i beam when compared to such a pirate.
Edit1: ease of reading
Edit2: thank you Deeg for posting those linky's _________________ Arrgh maties, don't kill'em all.
