As a long-time ult bilger (I think I somewhere in the 50s or 60s, haven't checked lately) I thought I'd comment on the change:

I'm not sure what effect it's had on my performance. I have a suspicion that I go for the easy swaps more often than I used to, but that could be recall bias.

Overall, however, I like it for the simple reason that I don't have to squint so much (always a good look, squinting at a computer screen). And because it's got red in it, and I like red!

Bumpitydumadibumpitydoo.

Results will be collected tomorrow afternoon! Tell all your friends to start gathering their thoughts, and remember, your comments and observations are very important to us!

Thanks again! Prizes will be selected and distributed after I return (and details posted here). If you play on an ocean other than Sage, I'll have to see what I can do.

I tried out the new colors for the bilge puzzles. While it hasn't really made a difference to my standing (Leg/Ult) depending on the ocean, I do notice that I am able to spot combos a lot a easier and overall managing to keep my pump more happy. Before I used to miss a few of them if I weren't concentrating hard.

Ok I just now figured out how to get the bilge pieces to work...almost...heh I still can't overwrite the old one because it days it's "write-protected" What should I do?

And sorry that I didn't get it before now because I'm not great with computers (so, no, I haven't bilged yet so you can take my entry out Sad )

Ok all fixed now Smile Thanks Birchle and Sindaia!! Although I have only just started to try the new bilge (as of today). My apologies

I'm using the new colors. I have problems seeing the orange color when it's below water. It looks gray, just like the gray blocks. Other than that, I love the new color scheme. It helps me see the combinations much more quickly! Thanks for the tip. Smile

I didn't originally reply to this as I was unsure whether I would get the time to make it worthwhile posting my results, but I think I have and so here goes.....

1. Pirate name / ocean
2. Bilging rank (normally)
3. Roughly how much do you pillage each week?
4. Have you read any bilging tutorials lately?

1. Spacehog/Sage

2.Master

3. Usually don't bilge a lot, but if not sailing, gunning or navving will be the next on the list.

4. Yes, the ones here on TLL's forum. The wiki and a few others, plus watched some people's videos (could understand the moves they made after they made them...but couldn't see them them until they did...or something like that!!!).

And at the end of the week:
1. How much did you get to try it?
2. Bilging rank (using new image)
3. Comments/ thoughts
4. Did you do anything in the past week, besides changing the image, that changed the way you bilge? Describe.

1. Over the course of 2 weeks....say an hour every 2-3 days.

2. Renowned...not sure if this is more due to hopping on bilge when the level is quite high, and hopping off as soon as it's back to normal. May have artificially inflated my ranking.

3. I like the colours, I do find them a lot easier to see then the original ones...to the point now where unless it was banned I would continue to use the new image. Has it helped...I'm really not sure, I still find it hard to see anything above 5X5s and variations of that, but I used to find it hard to see even them, so maybe it has helped. I also struggle to work out my previous moves and removals to get myself in the position to get vegas's and donkeys (if that makes sense).

4. I've slowed down. I always thought bilging was about speed above everything else, but actually finiding out I have 10ish seconds to plan my moves has made the game more enjoyable if not necessarily easier. And that has to be an improvement in my book, and the same has to go for the new colours too, I enjoy bilging more than I used to and will be more willing to attempt it in future.

Hope this helps Pauling, I know it's pretty non-commital either way. But you said even remarks that weren't "pro-new colours" would be as helpful as those that are.....

i find the different colors for bilge to be very helpful! after the update this morning, i went to change the colors again (i don't always have to do this, but this time the update reverted back to the originals), but it didn't work. i'm not sure why, and i've tried a few times, logged on and off, etc. does anyone have any ideas? are we being blocked from changing the colors? i was able to change the SF colors with no problem.

It worked absolutely fine for me.

I checked the instructions and that's still exactly what I usually do.

Erm......(please note..these are not meant to sound like I think you haven't already thought about this, or you are silly (although........ Razz ), just asking the obvious questions)

1. Are you putting it in the right folder?

2. Is the file you are trying to replace it with is still called "pieces"?

3. Before you switched the files you did remember to say a tiny prayer to the god of computers...who, without proper respect being shown, will crash your computer on a whim. (I think the prayer begins "Ctrl, Alt, Delete"!).

4. As a last resort, always try and have a hammer nearby so you can threaten the machine with it!

so Rob fixed it for me Smile

i don't know why, but when i had trouble with this and right-clicked the link with the pieces.png file, it did not save properly. fortunately, i had saved the new pieces.png to the computer a while back, and we found that file. once we copied that into the bilge folder, it worked.

thanks for trying to help, and thanks for the colored pieces.

First you need to save the images via the links I posted. Then they are in your YPP folder on your PC. Locate those images (I think directions are posted at the beginning of this post) and rename them to something like pieces_original.png, etc. Then put the new colored images in the exact location that you found the originals to rename. Then restart your game and viola! it works! Very Happy

/me hasn't changed her bilge cuz I prefer the original so I'm not sure off the top of my head where its located. I need to find the SF one too and give that a try as I rather suck at SF Very Happy (unless I'm playing against Pac Razz j/k Pac! <3)... um, I'll update my post when I've found the location he he
